Make Money Online
Residual Affiliate Programs
All of us keep looking for various ways to make money online so, if you are a webmaster looking for extra online income or planning to set up an online business but still don't have any product to sell, affiliate marketing may be the best bet for you. With affiliate marketing, there is no need to worry about the products to sell.
Affiliate marketing can be termed as a kind of business relationship established between a merchant and his affiliates. To get started, all you need is a website with content that is related to the product of some company offering affiliate programs. By signing up as an affiliate for such a company, you can start earning money right away!
It works something like this - an affiliate sends some traffic to the merchant's website. If that traffic is converted into some kind of action, like a visitor buying a product on the merchant's website or becoming a lead for the company, the affiliate will be paid some amount of money. The affiliate may be paid a percentage amount of the sales generated or a fixed amount predetermined by the merchant.
Promising to benefit both the merchant and the affiliate, affiliate marketing has become one of the most popular online marketing and money making method today. That’s the reason behind so many merchants and retailers offering an affiliate program that can be joined by anyone.
Most affiliate programs are willing to pay you, as an affiliate, a one-time commission for every sale or lead you bring to the merchant's website. Commissions for this kind of affiliate programs are usually high, anywhere between 15% to around 60%. Other affiliate programs might pay you a fixed sum for every visitor you send to the merchant's site. Programs like this often pay a small fee for every click through, usually not getting any larger than a few cents. The good thing about this kind of program, however, is that the visitor won't have to purchase anything for the affiliate to get compensated.
Another type of affiliate program is the one that generates residual income. Residual income affiliate programs usually pay only a small percentage of sales commission for every conversion (sale). This commission often comes only in the range of 10% to 20% sales commission. Because of this, many people don’t realize the importance of residual affiliate programs and opt for high paying one-time commission affiliate programs. Are these people making a mistake or is it the right decision?
We can't say for sure if people are making a mistake but we can definitely say that it is not a good idea to ignore such programs. Residual affiliate programs would mostly pay a lower rate, but they will also result in consistent and continuing commissions for a single sale! That means, for the same effort you made in promoting a particular affiliate program, you get paid only once in a one-time commission program, and a regular and ongoing commission for a residual program!
Let’s see an example to make things clear. Suppose there are two online merchants both offering health supplements on their websites. The first merchant offers a one-time commission type of affiliate program that pays $45 for a conversion. The other merchant as well offers an affiliate program, but a residual program that gives just $5 for every sale. As an affiliate, we may get attracted to what the first merchant is offering, as $45 is definitely a higher amount than $5. But one may be able to see that the second merchant is offering us an opportunity to earn a larger amount of money in future.
Suppose you have directed traffic to the merchant and it gets converted into a sale, you'll get paid only once by the first merchant. But the second option lets you earn monthly for the duration, the customer purchases the health supplement.
So, should we promote residual affiliate programs? Definitely yes, as we can earn more money from these affiliate programs in the long run! And would such programs be the best option? That’s a tough one! But with the profit that such programs can provide, it would really be irrational not to promote such programs. All the best! :)
